The Blue Finger Alliance vision...

The Blue Finger Alliance is a partnership of organisations individuals and businesses working together to enable the transformation of the Blue Finger into a vibrant and resilient food growing quarter, through protection of the land and collaboration.

The Blue Finger lies to the north of Bristol (see the image below or the Map page). At its heart is a strip of Grade 1 agricultural land, the top 3% of land in the country for growing food. Grade 1 land is coloured blue on Land Classification Maps - hence the name... The dark red soil is exceptionally deep and fertile and the area was Bristol's historic market gardening quarter.

Local food economy, food security / sovereignty and food webs.

We should all know what we’re eating and where it comes from.

We need to create a viable local food economy. The Blue Finger can become a diverse and balanced patchwork of commercial agriculture, community projects, CSAs, allotments and other food-related social enterprises. Like this, it can feed and strengthen the resilience of the whole local food system and the local economy. There is a huge market for local produce.
