A former derelict toilet block in Bristol has reopened as a community cafe.

Work started in March on the single-storey building in Sea Mills which had been disused for the past six years.

The transformation of the 1950s building was carried out by Sea Mills Community Initiatives (SMCI).

Chairman Andrew Street said the unattractive and dilapidated structure had been transformed into an attractive and useful community building.

The Cafe on the Square, in Sea Mills Square, also includes a small area for community activities and opened for business on Tuesday morning.

SMCI, which is a registered charity, aims to provide relief for those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
