Stewardship COVID-19 Rapid Relief Fund £60K boost to Bristol Foodbanks

We’re pleased to announce that the Bristol Churches City Fund (BCCF) has been awarded a grant of £60,000 from the Stewardship COVID-19 Rapid Relief Fund to support the work of Foodbanks across the city.

BCCF was formed as a result of the coming together of Bristol Churches to provide a joined up strategic response to real needs in the City, to demonstrate unity and God’s heart of generosity.

All of the churches in Bristol are encouraged to get involved. The BCCF is now in its third year of operation, and over the previous two years has supported 9 strategic projects across Bristol relating to refugee support, debt support, food poverty and homelessness.

This year there has been a single focus on food poverty, in response to the significant increase in demand at Foodbanks as many more people experience economic insecurity.
The BCCF has raised over £50,000 since the end of March, and the grant from Stewardship increases the available funds to well over £100,000.

The funds are being used to purchase and distribute food, and also to provide advice and support to clients.

The demand for support is expected to increase further and be sustained throughout this year and into 2021, and the team at BCCF are therefore encouraging local churches and their members to show abundant generosity by continuing to donate to the Fund: https://www.churchescityfund.org/

In response to the award of the grant Andrew Street, from the BCCF Management Group, said: “this is a wonderful example of the effectiveness of churches acting together to form a strategic partnership with  a national grant provider. It exhibits a real sense of unity and also generosity in action. This combination of local giving and national funding will make a huge difference in the lives of thousands of people across Bristol in the coming months”.
