Christian Action Bristol: Oct 2022 Newsletter
Black History is more than a month
As Black History Month 2022 enters its last week, we’ve pulled together some resources for you for to help you continue engaging and turn education into action.
‘After The Flood’ is a 67 minute powerful documentary which aims to be educational and redemptive, and addresses the historical neglect of slavery in British Christian history. It’s available to rent or buy and is something to consider watching as a congregation or house group.
Churches Together have a great set of articles and lectures available including ‘Racial Justice Champions’ which celebrates contributions of often-unsung individuals from across the UK.
And ‘The Good Foundations Checklist’ from the Bristol-based ‘Racism and the Church’ identifies 10 simple steps that churches can begin to adopt to improve their responses to diversity and inclusion.
Bristol Churches City Fund Food Poverty & Food Insecurity Grant
Foodbanks continue to experience increasing demand, and their work alongside other community-based organisations/projects (food clubs, food pantries and community meal projects) needs more support.
The Bristol Churches City Fund are currently inviting applications from any organisation working in and around food poverty/food insecurity for grants in the range £1,000 to £10,000 (maximum grant).
Funds could be released as soon as mid-December.
Prayer breakfast for housing
Bristol’s Chaplain for Housing, Rev. Nic Harris, invites you to enjoy a time of prayer for housing in Bristol at the Chapter House of Bristol Cathedral. Mayor Marvin Rees will share with us his vision for housing in the city, with a time of prayer and a chance to connect with others.
TLG: Crisis response this winter
Transforming Lives for Good (TLG) is a Christian children’s charity that provides struggling children with hope and a future. TLG is launching an urgent crisis response to meet the exponentially growing need caused by the rising cost of living in the UK.
