Extending the Welcome Call: Follow-Up
Dear all – it’s three weeks since we were last in touch on the vital matter of support to refugees and asylum seekers
With more and more news coverage of the appalling conditions migrants are being kept in at Kent detention centres and media attention on the issues with the UK asylum system, it seems more important than ever to send this reminder email about Bristol City Council's request to mobilise Christian live-in and live-out landlords.
I attach a letter (See below) put together by the Good Faith Partnership team reminding you of the different options, to host people from
single asylum seekers or
paying refugee lodgers all the way to
landlords hosting families in houses. Please do share this with your networks, colleges, denominations, and anyone who might have access to housing, and pray that we see provision beyond what we can currently see or imagine.
It is also so important to come alongside those stuck in hotels for many months without a local community or cooking facilities. If you are interested in exploring befriending those in hotels as churches together, please do contact the Good Faith team who are playing a preliminary coordinating role:
claire.fenner.crawley a_t goodfaith d_o_t org d_o_t uk and
joseph.davies a_t goodfaith d_o_t org d_o_t uk (please could you email both).
Please do what you can in responding to this – it is such a hugely important need, and one where the church community can make a significant contribution.
Thank you
