Firstly, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who responded to last month's emergency appeal for food donations for the Wild Goose and the Foodbank.
Within minutes we were receiving notifications of orders and within days hundreds of pounds worth of food was delivered! It was amazing and extremely humbling - thank you.
The Wild Goose chef, Lee, was blown away and started using the food straight away. Lee and the team of volunteers are serving up to 160 meals a day. When they are cooking a tomato based meal, such as curry, chilli or casserole, Lee will use around 30 tins of tomatoes.
In July, the six outlets of our Foodbank provided emergency food parcels that supported 1,247 people. With children at home from school during this month and not able to have hot school dinners like they normally would, August is a hard month for families.
Lauren (Foodbank Admin Officer) has created a 1 Day School Holiday Bundle and a 1 Week School Holiday Bundle on their Give Today online donation page here. If you are able, please support families at this time.

Harvest at the Wild Goose homeless day centre
Harvest festivals during October goes back centuries, as communities across the country would join together to celebrate the provision of food from the ground. Things have changed a great deal since then with once only seasonal produce now being available in supermarkets all year round (to those who can afford it!).
I don't presume that everyone receiving this email lives in abundance and without need. If you do need help, please get in touch with us. However, if you have been blessed could you collect food for the Wild Goose during the month of October, as an act of thanksgiving and 'paying it forward' to those less fortunate? You could do this by yourself or in a group. For example:
-
Your family
-
Your workplace
-
Your church / youth group
-
Your sports team
-
Your child's brownies / cubs group
It would be really helpful to let us know if you are collecting. Below is a list of needed items.
As usual, you can donate these items online as well here.
GOOD NEWS STORY ALERT!
I (Nicola, Spring of Hope Manager) gave a talk at Nelson Trust to agencies and women who have been homeless in the past. I noticed a lady came in late and recognised her from when she stayed at Spring of Hope during SWEP (Severe Weather Emergency Protocol). I didn’t draw attention to this due to confidentiality.
There were various questions from those attending. At the end, the lady who stayed during SWEP asked to say a few words. She shared that she had stayed at Spring of Hope, that it was a lovely place where she felt safe. She said the staff looked after her really well and it felt like being with family. She then looked at me and said, "I am so grateful, I think of you and pray for you every day, you are my strength."
Such an emotional moment. I spoke with her privately afterwards and she is now in permanent accommodation and would love to come and volunteer with us.

Sleepout 2023 - Registration Open!
Friday 13th October
10pm - 7am
St Stephen's Church gardens, BS1 1EQ
This year, the Sleepout is raising money for the Wild Goose homeless day centre.
One night sleeping outside cannot replicate the horrors faced by those who sleep rough, but it does give an insight into some of the challenges.
One previous participant said this:
"To anyone considering joining the Sleepout, I'd say do it! I was blown away by the amount of support shown by my family, friends and colleagues. I nearly doubled my fundraising goal. But more importantly, I've had numerous conversations about the importance of inHope's work and the impact the charity is making in Bristol."
Investors needed
Hope into Action: Bristol provide homes for the most vulnerable in society in partnership with local churches. We current have two homes in Knowle West and Portishead.
Here's what one tenant said:
"I am so happy. All I’ve wanted is a home – now I’ve got one! There should be more churches helping people like me – giving people a chance, a new life, a normal life."
In order to help more and more people to have a chance at a new life, we are looking for investors for our next houses in Bristol/S Glos and would love to hear from you if have capital to invest in a property to help give someone a safe place to live.
One house is almost funded, so now is a great opportunity to be part of the team!
