CSUK Prayer Diary - September 2024

Welcome to September’s Prayer Diary

8e52a20d-f10e-dd2c-8ad4-45fb56

We remain committed to praying for one another as we walk out our faith in Jesus as the son of God, who loves us and gave His life for us

The Christian Surfers’ summer serving season is behind us and the CSUK competition circuit awaits; the joy of connecting with the surfing community that we love to serve.

With the Biblical encouragement of, ‘for everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven,’ (Ecclesiastes 3:1) we embrace the changing of the seasons allowing for celebration and gratitude of the previous and the hope and purpose for the to-come. So with celebration and gratitude we honour Ali Boddy, CSUK’s administrator for the last 10 years, for her investment into the mission, serving with wisdom, dedication and warmth. A steady hand for all sorts and so much more!

May your new season be richly blessed and full of God’s goodness.

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

YOU CAN DO ANYTHING

As I write this there are a few days left of the Olympic Games in Paris. There was a controversial scene in the opening ceremony which is a conversation for another time. The image for the games I'd like to talk about is one to celebrate unreservedly, taken in Teahupo'o, Tahiti.

Gabriel Medina chose to put the image of himself, coming off the back of a high scoring wave, on his Instagram page with the quote, "I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13 (NLT).

The picture has gone viral, and the timing for this quote, to go all around the world could not be better. The level of fear and confusion, with all that is going on both locally and internationally, requires that you and I step up with the courage, security, kindness, and peace- making truth that we know as Jesus followers. It's time to be salt and light.

Whatever your circumstances or daily routine, God has put you there strategically to be the fragrance of Christ (2 Corinthians 2:15). Your testimony, your CS sticker on your car, your conduct in and out of the water, all speak volumes and bring hope to people who have none, or who put their hope in the wrong things.

Gabriel Medina has a far reaching voice because of his surfing ability and his faith. But don't be put off because your ability and influence is different to his. There are some people he can never reach, but you can, through Christ who gives you strength.

GIVING THANKS

OPENING OF JESUS SURF CLASSIC REGISTRATION

Give thanks for such a great response to the opening of registration for the Jesus Surf Classic. Within 10 days most places were taken, such is the popularity of the ’Jesus’! See more info further on for how you can pray and be involved with this event, which a number of entrants call their favourite contest of the year.

SURFERS BIBLE

Praise God for the number of people that have already received a Bible. Bibles have been distributed across the UK to be given away by CSUK members, and sent to those ordering from the website. Continue to pray for many more opportunities for conversations and for Bibles to be given away to ‘surfers who have not yet discovered the life changing story of Jesus.’

EVENTS

JESUS SURF CLASSIC

21-22 SEPTEMBER, CROYDE BAY, N DEVON

b50c36ed-abec-50b1-4921-79cf74

The Jesus Surf CLassic, now in its 32nd year, has become one of the biggest and longest running surf contests in the UK, with over 100 competitors, their families and friends descending on the contest site.

Please pray for:

  • All those involved in the planning, as preparations ramp up in the next few weeks

  • For a strong volunteer team

  • For safety during the contest

  • And above all, that people would come to know more of Jesus through the event that bears His name.

With an event of this size, a big team effort is needed for it to run smoothly

Volunteering at the Jesus Surf Classic is always a great experience and a chance to serve with the Christian Surfers family from across the UK, along with members of local churches. Why not volunteer to be part of the action this year and join with Christian Surfers UK to serve the surfing community?

Tasks involve setting up and setting down the contest site, serving refreshments, helping on the barbecue, running results up from the beach, spotting for the judges, time keeping, litter picking, praying, baking cakes, manning the information desk etc.

These roles are organised on an hourly basis so that you can volunteer for as little or as much of the weekend as you like.

MEN’S WEEKEND

4-6 OCTOBER, WIDEMOUTH BAY

413b4096-87fe-b9eb-7be0-3cabfa

Pray for those planning this weekend where men can spend time together, forge new friendships and stoke the fires of old ones. A time that brings together those with faith, those with none, and everything in between for some surf, conversation and sharing of faith journeys.

Registration will open soon

WOMEN’S WEEKEND

8-10 NOVEMBER, GEORGEHAM, N DEVON

53dfff5a-8a51-322c-3f56-32e51d

Please pray for the planning team of this very popular event, designed to nourish the mind, body, and soul, with a combination of surfing, time in nature, and time with God. Pray for the women who will be coming that they will draw closer to God during the course of the weekend and take the chance to step back and contemplate some of the more important things in life.
