When John and Jade Reynolds went on their first date, it didn’t go quite how they’d planned.

With the lift broken, John had to carry wheelchair user Jade up 3 flights of stairs – but it wasn’t quite as romantic as you might expect!

Check out the latest episode to hear the full story and how it ended (spoiler: they became overnight viral sensations online).

COUPLE GOALS Couples' Goal

Expectations – 3 things we learned from John and Jade Reynolds (Episode 4):

1. Approach your relationship thinking, 'What can I give?' rather than, 'What can I get?'
John shared his favourite relationship advice which centres on making sure your goal in the relationship is to put the other first.

If your focus is always on yourself, your partner won’t feel valued and the relationship will suffer. But when both of you have a ‘what can I give?’ attitude, it ensures you’re each prioritised by the other and your relationship will be stronger because of it.

2. All healthy relationships are built on daily sacrifice
Sometimes marriage is hard! Having healthy and realistic expectations ensures that you don’t think something is wrong with a relationship that doesn’t feel the same as it did when you first got together.

If you expected a lifetime of butterflies and always getting your own way, you may be disappointed when you feel like you’re having to give things up for your relationship.

But if you see your marriage as a joint project that you are building together, it can help you to shift your perspective away from what you feel you’re missing out on, to see that you are each sacrificing for the relationship.

3. 'Everything you feel is real, but is it true?'
Jade shared from personal experience that it can be easy to leap to negative conclusions about your partner if you are frustrated with them.

Whilst recognising that initial emotional reactions can often be felt deeply (and sometimes genuinely), it’s important not to allow yourself to build minor incidents into a wider narrative.

If you find yourself spiralling into negative thought patterns about your partner from these small moments, Jade encouraged us to remember the good things about them that have actually been proven over time.
