This summer we are calling on the UK government to establish an Independent Process for setting Universal Credit. This would look at what food, heating, travel and essentials actually cost and make sure the support people receive matches real life.

We're pleased to see politicians already looking at the issue. Last week, the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Ending the Need for Food Banks launched an inquiry into how the level of Universal Credit is decided. The APPG brings together MPs from across the political spectrum who are committed to ending the need for food banks.

The inquiry is an important opportunity to build evidence and momentum for change. At Trussell, we'll be working with people from our food bank community and beyond to share how the current system affects individuals, communities, employers and food banks.

As politicians discuss how support is set and whether it provides enough to cover life's essentials, it's a key moment for MPs to hear directly from people like you in their communities who care about hunger and hardship.
